Firstly, the news that everyone will be happy to hear - people who signed up to the yourparty-members domain earlier on this month will have their memberships migrated over to the “Official” membership system so should not worry. This is certainly good news, as I know personally of people who paid £55 for the year and were disappointed to find out about the squabbling and so on.
At 6:57pm on 24 September, Zara Sultana wrote on Twitter:
I’m a member of Your Party - and if you haven’t joined yet, you should too. I’ll remain a fierce advocate for the grassroots – and will continue to fight hard for maximum member democracy. For those who joined the previous system: data and membership will be migrated across in due course. We have a world to win. Let’s get to work! ✊🏽
This is certainly welcome news. While in Sheffield on Wednesday 24 September, Sultana made a speech to everyone apologising for the situation and for those who were feeling demoralised, saying that she was feeling demoralised and angry as well, but was comitted to the grassroots and putting social movements and trade unions first. She stated that democracy was not something that could be compromised on and that there was a desperate need for a socialist party and apologised for the part she played in that, concluding with the need to fight fascism.
Edit: Changed title to reflect more fairly, since it’s not really just Jeremy Corbyn who is responsible for this. Also he’s a nice person and I think he is a good man, and I want to be fair to him. (26-09-2025 - 11:22AM)
